The Truth About Sex Toys - Interview with Epiphora
In the world of sex bloggers, Epiphora (HeyEpiphora.com) is well known as a snarky, no nonsense sex toy reviewer and resource. I've teamed up with Epiphora, Lorax of Sex and Jenna Clark from Tantus to talk about the ins and outs of working with companies as affiliates and product reviewers at the upcoming CatalystCon.
Epiphora has built up a huge resource about the products she reviews, including helpful information about sex blogging. If you want to know the truth check her blog, she's real and never holds back. I had a chance to interview Epiphora to find out more about what makes a successful sex blog and blogger.
Join us on September 28 in Woodland Hills, CA for "Will Write for Dildos: How and Why Companies and Reviewers Should Work Together."

Krista - How did you get started reviewing sex toys?
Epiphora - In 2007, I stumbled upon a call for reviewers on a sex toy retailer's site. I didn't have any toy expertise at all, but I was wooed by the promise of free sex toys in exchange for writing about them. I was in college at the time, so it was really just a little hobby to get my mind off Chaucer. I've been writing all my life, and I've always been very opinionated – sometimes to my detriment – so reviewing made sense.
Turns out, I loved it. A year later, I launched my blog and quickly stocked it with my signature snarky reviews. As it stands, I've been drowning in sex toys for over 5 years now. And trust me, I am drowning. I have nowhere to put any of them anymore.
Epiphora - The orgasms! That's the easy answer. And just knowing that masturbation is actually my job, in a way. That always amuses me when I think about it.
But to be more deep than that, I love learning about my body. There is so much I know now that I fear I would've never learned without trying all these toys. I used to be resigned to the fact that penetration would never feel good. Now I yearn for it whenever I masturbate, and I can feel my G-spot being stimulated by almost every dildo I use. I would’ve never learned to squirt without sex toys. I also know that my clit is a lefty, and lately I've been having more orgasms per masturbation session than ever before. I'm always learning and evolving.
Krista - And your least favorite?
Epiphora - THE CLEANING. My masturbation sessions are quite extensive, and I use a lot of toys each time. That means a lot of cleaning, and a lot of counter space that my boyfriend would much rather have when he's preparing dinner. I'm also not a fan of the way my brain has been re-programmed so that I can never again jack off without making a laundry list of toy notes as I go.
Krista - You are definitely not a “lowly blogger” what do you think is the secret to your longevity and success?
Epiphora - Blissful ignorance and low expectations at the beginning, a love of writing and web design, persistence, patience, and a heaping serving of luck.
Krista - Are you considering expanding into any other areas of the industry?
Epiphora - I'd be open to other work within the industry, but I'm pretty swamped right now. All of my jobs are in the industry.
Epiphora - When I saw a pipe that allows a person to take a hit WHILE giving a blowjob, I was not shocked. So yeah, I'm desensitized.
Krista - What are your top three recommended sex toys, that we can find at Lovehoney.com?
Krista - What does the future hold for HeyEpiphora.com?
Epiphora - More reviews, more guides, and more take-downs of idiots.
