The Sportsheets Satin Blindfold and Cuff Bondage set arrived direct from Lovehoney in plain brown discreet packaging, very promptly.
The packaging is plain and simple with a touch of elegance. The box has a non-erotic image of a woman using the blindfold set with the writing “Satin and Lace Lovers Kit” at the bottom, which I think has a very nice sound to it. The Sportsheets company logo is embossed onto the box in gold writing and looks very classy. The satin and lace bondage set it tucked neatly inside and protected by a cellophane bag.
I was blown away with the quality of the blindfold and cuffs. The lace is beautiful and super smooth, indicating good quality in comparison to some lace which can feel quite scratchy. On the reverse of the lace is super smooth and soft silk, which feels amazing! The blindfold and cuffs are also slightly padded for a comfortable fit.
All of the stain lace attachments on the blindfold are attached with double stitching, making them extra secure - they feel very sturdy. The cuffs also have a hole about three quarters of the way along to thread the lace through to secure the two ends of the cuffs together. An added little feature is the inclusion of a silver coloured metal D-ring so you can attach other items to them like fasteners or chains. There seems to be more than enough length on the ties.
Using this product:
I must say, my first impressions of how good this product was were soon washed away when we tried them on. I used this set with my husband, and when we decided to give them a try things were a bit of a fumble! To attach the cuffs you need to thread one of the ties through a little hole on the cuff to bring the two ends of the tie together and secure them.
My problem with this is: the cuffs are just too big. I wouldn't say that I have particularly small wrists and I've never had a problem with anything fitting on my wrists before, but once the thread goes all the way through, the other end of the cuff prevents it from going any further. This also leaves a 'flap' of that just seems to get in the way.
You can thread both sides of the cuff through the hole to try and eliminate this flap and fold it back on itself but it removes the ability to use the included D-ring. Once in use the cuffs didn't come off, but I felt like they were going to slip off, and I can imagine this would definitely be the case for those with small wrists. What is annoying is that the description of the product does say that these cuffs are adjustable, and they're only really adjustable if you have a bigger than average wrist size.
Once the cuffs were on they just didn't feel secure enough for my liking. I didn't have any problems with the blindfold, the ties were safe and secure and the added padding helps to really black everything out.
How does it feel?
When wearing this item you do feel really luxurious, especially when teamed with a nice outfit for the bedroom. The satin feels lovely against your skin and really makes things more exciting! My husband did note that it looked really nice, especially with the outfit I was wearing and it adds a real touch of class and luxuriousness to bondage play, rather than your typical leather cuffs.
Advice for buyers:
I would say that this product would suit anyone with an interest in bondage play. The lace really makes everything so luxurious. It would be perfect for beginners as it does seem like a gentle introduction, but also perfect for people who are more advanced in bondage play as just a nice and sensual change. I would recommend putting on the cuffs yourself to avoid all the messing around trying to work out how to best fasten them. Then you can leave the length on the ties free for your partner to tie them together or to something else.
I would recommend this product to others for dressing up outfits or beginners in bondage, but I'm not entirely sure that it is worth the price tag unfortunately. The cuffs and blindfold are made with very high quality, but the way that the cuffs tie together is really off putting for me. It just seems like a lot of hassle, and the “flap” of cuff left over just become really annoying for me. I would much rather see the two ends tied together rather than having to thread it through the cuff. It's a little disappointing because there seems to be a gap for this sort of product in the market, and I was super excited to see it. Hopefully this item may be remade to be more secure in the future.
- The lace and satin is beautiful and feels high quality.
- The cuffs aren't very adjustable and don't feel secure.
- Bottom line
- A great idea, but doesn't live up to the quality.
