Dildos: Some Like it Hard!
on Nov 21, 2012
Hard dildos are the best! They don’t necessarily have to be huge and they don’t necessarily have to be realistic… We just want them to be hard, rock hard, maybe unnaturally hard, but hey that’s why we’re here.
Hard toys provide undeniable resistance, fullness and pressure to hit all the right spots. They stay firm and don’t yield. They are eternally hard and always ready. Some hard materials like glass and metal have the added benefits of being shiny and gorgeous.
These hard materials can be easily cooled or heated with warm or cold water (never microwave or freeze a dildo before use, extreme temperatures are not pleasant on sensitive areas and burns can occur).
Betty Dodson, a pioneer of advocating female masturbation, has long combined a hard toy with a strong vibrator to help elicit some of the most powerful orgsams. While the vibrator takes care of clitoral stimulation, a hard dildo can provide resistance for clenching and flexing muscles. This is also a great way to learn about your body, and really feel the sensations and resistance from a firm toy.
I’d like to take a moment and focus on some of my favorite types of materials for dildos and yes they are all relatively hard: glass, metal and silicone.
Glass Dildos
I remember the first time I saw a shiny transparent twisting and turning dildo on display at my local sex shop. I knew instantly that I must have it, or one like it, even if it would be the most expensive toy I purchased to date. Once I held the transparent phallic shape and felt that hard glass I was hooked. Back then the options were few and the prices were high.
Luckily for all of us, the options have expanded. There are tons of beautiful glass dildos available at great prices so that everyone can enjoy the rock hard, smooth and slick feel of sometimes transparent, sometimes colorful glass.
Glass dildos are reinforced for strength so there’s no need to worry about chips or breakage. We do recommend checking your glass dildo before each use for any cracks or chips, just in case. If you do find a chip or a crack in your new glass toy, remember we have a great return policy. A drop on a hard floor or other surface could still cause some damage.
Glass can be heated or cooled for variety and temperature play. For a warm rush heat some water on the stove or in the kettle. We don’t recommend using the boiling water to heat your glass toy, but as the temperature drops from a boil pour the hot water over the dildo into a bowl and remove the toy when it’s warm, but not too hot to hold. For a cooling experience fill the bowl with ice water. If you are playing with temperature, test the heated or cooled dildo against your wrist before it encounters more sensitive areas.
Glass dildos are eco-friendly, will last a lifetime and are body safe. These days they come in a variety of sizes and shapes. These beauties are phallic, light bending sculptures that have the wonderful task of getting you off!
The rock hard and slick feel of glass is unrivaled, except by our next rock stars, metal!
Metal Dildos
Metal toys offer the same rock hard feel and slick smooth finish of glass with one shiny difference. Stainless steel toys reflect and shine, like tiny mirrors to match every scene and seduction.
Spending the last few years of my life immersed in the sex blogging universe I’ve found that the Njoy Pure Wand (shown, left) is one of the most recommended dildos by those who know, sex toy bloggers and reviewers. The perfect curve and luxury material make it a real crowd pleaser.
Explore new sensations and enjoy the cool, smooth feel of metal dildos. Combining sensual curves with aesthetic beauty, each of our metal dildos has been carefully selected to deliver incredible stimulation and firm sensual massage of your most sensitive spots. Metal dildos can be cooled or heated (same as above with glass) and used with your favourite lube.
Silicone Dildos
Finally, I can’t end this post without mentioning one of the most versatile sex toy materials on the market; pure, beautiful, firm and non-porous silicone. Silicone is not always as hard as glass and metal which makes it perfect for activities like strap-on play. It also comes in softer, squishier versions that mimic flesh.
Silicone is non-toxic and skin safe, material that enhances your pleasure. It's one of the highest-quality sex toy materials available. It quickly warms to body temperature and it’s easy to clean with mild soap and water, bleach solution, in the dishwasher or by boiling.
Like glass and metal, silicone dildos are body safe, non-porous, and can be cleaned thoroughly and disinfected. Making them some of the best toys for sharing with a partner. The material will not degrade and a quality silicone dildo could last a lifetime.
Silicone is the way to go if you are looking for a realistic toy or a firm toy that has a bit more give than one of the hard materials mentioned above. Silicone dildos have the added bonus of being great for harnessing and strap-on penetration. Many silicone dildos will have a flared base for this purpose which makes them perfect for anal play.
Remember: never use silicone lube with silicone sex toys and always store your silicone toys separately.
I hope this post helps you to find the perfect hard dildo for your needs. Feel free to post your comments and questions below or Tweet to @Lovehoney_com
