Erotica: Candy for the Mind
on Nov 18, 2013
I have more than a few shelves filled with books in my home; dirty, sexy, erotic books. To me they all represent one thing - escapism. I can indulge in my favorite fantasies and sometimes discover things I never even knew could turn me on with the simple turn of a page. I used to think of my collection of erotica in terms of simply books, but now I refer to them as my shelves of mind candy because that's what they are to me.
Some are full of fantasies, some of which I may decide to act out for myself. Some will stay locked in the deepest recess of my mind, until I feel the need to take matters into my own hands. Some have not been for me but have opened up my mind and taken me on a journey as the author took the main characters through their paces.
Just like candy, erotic books come in all shapes, sizes and cater to most tastes. It's just a case of finding the right candy for you… So if you are sitting comfortably, lets take a look at some of the mind candy that can be found.

Also known as anthologies. These books offer a myriad of different short stories that are often collected under one sub category of the genre. There are anthologies that cater to both hard- and soft-centered erotica, and the beauty of these stories is they are short reads, often requiring no more than 30 minutes to an hour of your time.
Something To Really Get Your Teeth Into?
If you prefer your candies to last a little longer, there are tons of erotic books to choose from and they range from the dark side of erotica through to the softer side, and cover all genres.
Soft-centered erotic, just like it's chocolate counterpart, always follows the same rules. Love, emotions and the heart are at the center of these stories. Many follow the time-honored tradition of boy meets girl, everyone falls in love, has amazing sex and they live happily ever after.
As the name suggests, these stories take erotica to a whole new level. It's sex with an edge, often found in the form of dominance or submission, but that does not mean that it does not have softer elements or that it tastes less sweet than its counterpart.
Candy Makes You Feel Better:
So does erotica. Erotica can be a great stress reliever and the advantage it has over chocolate or even ice cream is the calorie count for starters. A good erotic author can transport you to another world, another time, they can allow you escape the stress of the day and sometimes prompt you to take matters into your own hands…
How To Choose Your Erotic Candy:
With so many choices how do you go about choosing the right book for you? I would suggest that you start by looking for an anthology that deals with a subject you know you enjoy and already features in your fantasies on a regular basis. If thinking about firemen always sends your heart a flutter and gets your thighs a little moister, then why not start there?
If you are looking for something a little longer then take the time to look through the erotic fiction titles that can be found at Lovehoney.com, and see what grabs your fancy. Reading the descriptions and reviews can give you a clue to the book's contents and a hint of what you might enjoy.
Nice Girls Share Their Candy
If you are in a relationship, sharing an erotic story or two with your lover can open up paths to communication that might have never been explored otherwise. Who knew that you wanted to be tied to a chair and teased, just like the character in your latest erotic page turner?
Reading erotica to your partner can also be a huge turn on, that can result in some sweaty sessions of your own. If you're in a long distance relationship, you can add some heat by reading a book simultaneously.
To quote Forrest Gump, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never quite know what you are gonna get.” The same can be said of any book. I've read all kinds of erotica and have often been surprised by the effects that certain stories have had on me. As I said at the start of this piece, for me erotica represents escape, I can be my character even if I will never do what a character might in real life.
So go and find your own mind candy, a quiet corner, and enjoy!
