High quality pair of plugs
Reviewed: January 25, 2016 by Echo32B
The set is packaged brilliantly in a sturdy orange and grey box with embossed writing. It’s very stylish and gender neutral. (High praise indeed since I hate the colour orange, it offends my eyes!) The front opens like a book, which uncovers viewing panels so you can see the set inside the box.
Taking them out I was pleasantly surprised by the size of both plugs. The orange (smaller one) could almost be a beginner’s plug, whereas the second grey one is certainly not for anal play novices. They are made of silicone (yay), and it’s the super smooth kind! The shape of them is great. The long thin tip is great for easy insertion. They thicken nicely in the middle and then shrink back down to allow for a long neck before the suction cup.
The suction cups on both plugs provide a super strong hold. I can even attach them to painted walls and wooden furniture.
I don’t really get why one vibrates and not the other, but maybe they just intend you to use the orange one as a ‘warm-up’ to using the grey one. Who knows? Whatever the reason, I reserve the right to be mildly disappointed by this.
Putting the batteries in the plug can be tricky. It requires you to pull the silicone down from the base and away from the internal bulle. You can then unscrew the cap and put the battery in. It’s certainly not the easiest thing to do, but it’s not rocket science. It took a long time for the remote to decide to start talking to the plug, and I encourage you not to ever leave the batteries in, as the plug will drain them.
The remote is the only way to control the butt plug. You switch the remote on with one button and then use the other button to click through the settings. The control lights up and flashes in tandem with the toy so you can see what pattern it is on, which is really convenient when you’re using it on someone else! To me the vibrations are really buzzy, not something I'll enjoy personally, but hey at least they’re super quiet!
I tested the range, leaving the plug on the side and stepping away from it, turning the plug on and off as I got further away. It stops talking to the plug at just over a metre away. And that range obviously doesn’t include a human body interfering, so I knew I was going to have to stay up close and personal to play with my OH.
We chose to use the orange plug first, since the grey one is too big for my OH without a warm-up. It slides in easily, but for once I don’t have to ‘duck the projectile butt plug’ when it decides not to stay put, as this one is very secure. Here’s where I get pretty darn miffed that this plug doesn’t vibrate, because it’s a great size and comfy for my other half while we have sex.
The grey butt plug is a challenge for my OH he is relatively new to bum play, and this whilst not being very wide is a lot longer than other things we’ve used. Once in, though, like the orange one it stays put no problem. By this point he is already twitchy. Turning the vibrations on causes him to become a quivering wreck. The buzziness of the plug clearly isn’t a problem for him the way it is for me.
I love being able to control the plug whilst we are having sex, even if switching the patterns does put him off his stride a bit! It’s great having the remote flash in tandem with the pattern so you know what he is experiencing. Great for when I’m tying him up and teasing him, although you do have to have the remote very close for the plug to actually respond.
The range is absolutely fine for solo use as you’re going to have it in your own hand, which is never going to be that far away from your bum. It’s also perfectly adequate for partner play in the bedroom. What I wouldn’t recommend it for is teasing when out and about. I know people like to use their remote control toys in public to see their OH twitch with pleasure whilst they try to be subtle, but the range isn’t good enough unless you are always going to be right next to them. And the plug is quite long - I’m not sure how comfortable it would be for prolonged use.
Overall I really adore this set. It's super body-safe as it’s made of silicone instead of TPE/rubber/jelly porous rubbish. And the size options are quite handy. It could do with the vibrations being stronger, and I'm still really disappointed that the orange plug doesn’t vibrate, because I feel we would use that one more. I think Maia dropped the ball there really. On the bright side you can barely hear the toy once inserted, which would be ideal for those house sharing! It’s not a bad price at all for two medical grade silicone plugs, especially considering the included vibrating/remote control aspect.
- Smooth to the touch silicone, well designed shape.
- The orange one doesn't vibrate. Vibrations on the buzzy side.
- Bottom line
- A great set that covers all the basis, size options, suction cups, vibrations and remote.

Quality plugs but missing something
Reviewed: August 6, 2016 by Krash4913, a Straight Going Steady Male
I received the Maia Ethan plug set for an honest review of the product, so here goes:
Just for clarification, I'm a single straight male, and I consider myself to be intermediate in my experience with prostate massagers and prostate toys in general as I have a few different prostate toys, from non-vibrating massages such as Aneros toys to vibrating massagers such as the Lelo Hugo.
That being said, this is actually the first butt plug I've ever tried. All my other toys are more specific to prostate massage, just so you have an idea of where I'm coming from for this review.
As a first butt plug set I've ever used, I must say overall I'm fairly satisfied with the set. The colors are nice (love the orange!) and the material is definitely high-grade silicone, which is great.
There is definitely a difference in the size of these 2 plugs. The orange plug is definitely more for beginners of anal play, or it can also be used as a good 'warm up' to the larger grey plug.
Even though I consider myself an intermediate user, the larger plug still takes a minute to get in for me as it has more girth at its widest point than most of my other toys. Once it's in place, however, it feels great and doesn't move out of place at all, which is great.
This toy was also the first time I'd ever used something with a suction cup bottom to keep in place. I must say I enjoyed that feature more than I thought I would. Even with the suction cup stuck on a surface, the toy would stay in place unless I moved up too high on it.
The vibrations from the bullet inside the larger butt plug feel nice but also lacking and not as strong of vibrations as I'd like. Then again, I'm comparing these vibrations to my experience with vibrating prostate massagers which are designed a bit differently so keep that in mind. Also, in regards to the vibrations... the remote that comes with the set to turn the vibrator on is very simple and feels very light and cheaply made.
Also, I've had a lot of times where the remote decides it doesn't want to link to the vibrator and it won't turn on at all. Or, I have to turn on the remote 5 or 6 times in a row before the vibrator finally turns on. This is by far the most frustrating thing about the toy... I can't rely on the remote working every time like I can with other remote controlled toys.
Also, keep in mind that the AAA batter inside the vibrator of the larger plug will drain very, very quickly of its charge if left inside the vibrator. I found this out the hard way and went through 2 batteries very quickly, because I didn't remove the battery when I wasn't using the toy. I highly encourage you to remove the battery every time you're done using the toy. Sometimes I've even had to remove the battery and put it back in just to get the remote to work again.
Overall, I'm going to give the set a 3 out of 5 because I was disappointed in the remote not always working with the vibrator and that the batteries drain out so quickly in the vibrator. Also, I wish the smaller orange plug had a vibrator option inside of it as well. I know it's skinnier, but I'm sure Maia Ethan could find a way to make both plugs have a vibration to them.
I think the orange one with a vibrator and designing a better remote system for this set would really kick it up a notch. But because of those two particular things, I have to give it a 3. I'd still recommend the set to anyone looking for a solid butt plug set, but keep in mind those small issues you might run into.
- Great colors, material and overall design.
- I wish the orange also vibrated and the remote worked better instead of working intermittently.
- Bottom line
- Overall, a decent set for beginner-intermediate anal play. Would recommend for first plug set.
