We-Vibe Bloom USB Rechargeable App Control Vibrating Kegel Balls
Very fancy kegel balls

I was sent this item in exchange for an honest review - thank you, Lovehoney! In the usual Lovehoney fashion, it was delivered in discreet packaging and by a tracked delivery service so I knew when it would arrive.
The packaging is the level of luxury that you would expect for an item of this kind of price, and nestled in the box you will find the vibrating part of the toy, 3 interchangeable weights, a charging cable, a satin storage bag and a set of instructions.
Charging the toy is easy, just plug the cable into the vibrating base part of the toy by unscrewing the weight and removing it. I found that the first time I charged the toy, it took a while for the indicator light to flash slowly to say that it was charging, so just let it charge for a bit if you’re having this issue. The light will remain solid when it is charged. When connected to the app, it tells you the battery percentage which I think is so useful.
The toy has one button that cycles through its vibration settings manually. It’s of course designed to be used with an app so you or a partner can control it through a smartphone, but I think that in order to turn the toy off completely you need to press and hold the button on the toy. (Don’t worry, you can turn the vibrations off using the app, but the toy remains on in standby mode waiting for more instructions.)
Honestly it is really difficult to tell if the toy is on or off because there’s nothing to indicate other than whether it’s vibrating, and I’ve paired it to my phone and found that it’s on 2% battery when I thought it would be fully charged because it must have been left on by mistake, so this is something to be aware of. It’s supposed to have a sleep time-out that I have set to 30 minutes, but I’ve certainly found that the battery is drained to a much greater extent than I’d expect from use. On occasions I’ve seen that the app says it has 70%, then when I next reconnect it it’s at 0.
Shape and weight:
I think that shape is so important when it comes to kegel balls, and this one is comfortable to wear, plus the silicone is just so gorgeously smooth. I’m not used to using kegel balls that vibrate so shape and weight have always been the biggest factors for me. I really like that these come with interchangeable weights to make it so much more versatile. It has a really good range with weight 1 being really light, progressing to weight 3 which is much much heavier so suitable for advanced users. I think it really misses something from not having a moving weight inside it because it means you need to have the vibrations on to get any sort of stimulation, and you don’t have that excitement of feeling it move when you’re walking.
The retrieval cord is soft silicone so isn’t uncomfortable and doesn’t get in the way. I have found that sometimes only a little of it is left outside after having them inside for a while, and also the item that I was sent did not have the silver metal component on the end of it like pictured in the product images. Not a big thing but worth mentioning on a toy of this price! The vibrations travel through it ever so slightly so you can position it running forwards to get a very small amount of clit stimulation.
The vibrations seem like they’ll be quite intense when you’re holding it in your hand, but honestly once it’s inside it doesn’t feel like all that much - but I’m trying to keep in mind that this is a kegel exerciser and the vibrations are an added extra, that it’s not actually necessarily designed for that sort of stimulation - that it isn’t trying to be a remote control toy with the primary focus of achieving orgasm.
The vibrations sound loud when outside of the body because it feels as though it rattles a bit where the weights attach but once it’s inside it’s quite discreet. I can’t quite tell whether I’d feel confident to go outside with the vibrations on a high setting, but it’s not as loud as some remote toys I’ve tried. I’m finding that as I adjust to the realisation that the highest settings are still not going to come anywhere near making me cum, it seems a lot more fun to use the low settings and patterns as just general stimulation while wearing them. When viewing it like that, it’s a lot more like the sort of sensation from weighted kegel balls, and anything below around 7/10 on the vibrations remains discreet in my opinion.
A lot of the vibration is lost through the weight. Because of the way it’s designed, the part of the toy that is vibrating is not the furthest point inside, when I think usually toys focus strong vibrations into the part that will actually be resting against the g-spot or such like.
So the instructions that came in the box said to download the “Bloom” app which doesn’t actually exist, so it loses points for its instructions being uniquely unhelpful. You actually want to download the “We-Connect” app! Once you have it, you can pair your vibe with the app by pressing and holding the button on the toy while pressing pair on the app. It’s easy to do but I have found that it can take a few attempts and occasionally it will randomly disconnect which isn’t ideal for a toy of this sort of price.
Sometimes it’ll disconnect while it’s still vibrating so you can’t change the mode, intensity or turn it off, but I’ve found that fortunately when this happens it’s possible to pair it again without taking it out and pressing the button, although I have absolutely no idea how this works.
Once the app is connected, you can go through vibrations that show on-screen, or even draw your own. There is a wide range of things you can do with it and patterns you can create, but I do find that the vibrations start off really weak - I can basically not feel anything until it’s at a 5/10, meaning that when it’s at 10/10 it still feels pretty lacking.
The instructions boast a couple of things - firstly that you can track your progress with the app. This is just not a function that it has, so if you want this toy as a kegel exerciser that will keep you motivated looking at your progress and tell you when to switch weights and such like, it just is not going to do that currently. It’s a new toy and maybe they’ll add more features but at the moment it does not seem to have that function.
It also says that it has a training mode where you tense your muscles to make the toy vibrate. I spoke to Lovehoney livechat about these features and quite understandably they said that the instructions maybe weren’t right and this feature wasn’t live, since it’s very well hidden. But it does exist! The weird thing is you just can’t access it through the app, you have to find it through manual mode by pressing the button on the toy, and you could be forgiven for thinking that it doesn’t exist because you need to press the button until it stops vibrating, and surely anyone would think that meant it was off.
But if you get to a mode where it isn’t vibrating, then clutch it in your hand a few times, you should find that it responds with vibrations. It’s a fun mode to use, it’s novel and surprising, but you have no control over the vibration intensity and also the length of time that you squeeze it doesn’t seem to have much correlation with the length of vibration when it is released.
Within the app there is a “connect lover” feature. This can only be accessed when the toy is paired to your phone, and will remind you that you want to keep the toy paired to your phone and connect your lover separately rather than connecting to their phone. You send a link through any of the major messaging services and then they are able to connect. I was very amused to find that you can only have one lover connected - I had set up a connection with my boyfriend and then wanted to test out the toy with my Dominant, and found that the “connect lover” option was greyed out and whenever I tried to click it it just said “Your lover is not online”, which lead to much giggling and cries of “wow, this app is not poly-friendly!” If you want to switch lover, you need to go to ‘settings’ then ‘remove lover’, which feels pretty depressing, especially since I then got a call from my Dominant saying “yep, I’m bored of this already, I don’t know how to connect it and I can’t see you so it feels pretty dull”.
The app does have support for text chat, audio and video though, so if you are wanting to connect in that way then it supports all of those different communication methods! I think the reason for trouble in connecting was that the app came up with a thing saying “your lover wants to connect”, with yes/no buttons, but I didn’t get any notification of that until opening the app much later, so if you are connecting then I guess it’s best to leave the app open and have some means of communicating what’s happening so everyone knows where they are.
If you’re switching between different partners, you need to send them a new connect link every time to add them after you remove them, which doesn’t seem all that intuitive.
When a partner is controlling the vibrations, there is an option at the bottom of the screen that you can touch that says “take control” which I think is a really useful measure for if you want to use this in public and find that you’re uncomfortable or it’s not as discreet as you would like.
I love kegel balls, I think they’re awesome, but honestly I don’t think that they need to be this complicated. Maybe I’m biased because I can’t orgasm from internal remote control toys, but I think that since this is a kegel exerciser that doesn’t actually deliver on providing progress tracking like the instructions suggest, and I don’t feel it really works as a fully functional sex toy either because the vibrations are so weak, it doesn’t really excel on either front.
If I wanted pure kegel balls, I would probably go for something that had moving weights because I think they’re actually more pleasurable, more discreet and insanely less expensive. If I wanted a remote toy, I would choose a different We-Vibe product. I think the app connectivity is great and is a million times better than trying to get by with remote controls that aren’t from your smartphone, but I would definitely pick something that I thought had a chance of being able to make me orgasm and this one just doesn’t.
I feel like I’ll want to use this toy because it’s high quality and I’m in love with kegel balls, but without the vibrations on it doesn’t really feel like much at all so while it may be giving you the exercise, there isn’t really much immediate reward to it. The vibrations are fun on low settings but I find it a bit frustrating. I’ll get moments of “wait, this is quite hot...” then I think “but this will never make me orgasm…” and for £109.99, I’d rather have a toy that makes me orgasm. I know that kegel balls are supposed to help in eventually improving orgasms, but I feel like a cheaper toy would be able to fulfil that function.
If this was less expensive or I enjoyed internal stimulation by itself more, I would consider this. It connects well, it’s relatively discreet, it feels pleasant. It’s good at what it does but it’s a weird mid-point between remote control toy and kegel ball and I’m not sure that either camp are necessarily going to be totally happy with it.
- Good materials, changeable weights, good connectivity, quite discreet.
- Weak vibrations, no progress tracking, app disconnects sometimes, can't add multiple partners without removing.
- Bottom line
- Expensive for something that only may improve orgasms in the future without providing any.
