Blimey! For such a diminutive toy the Lush Dahlia certainly has a lot of power. And, as Voltaire said (or was that Stan Lee?) - with great power comes great responsibility. But does this toy wield its power well? Actually, I think so.

At a mere 2 inches in length this toy is, literally, not much to look at. It comes in a prettily decorated plastic box in which it could easily be stored. Once out of the box the Dahlia sits neatly in your hand. In fact, you can easily 'palm' the whole thing, it will fit inside a closed fist, that's how small it is. It has a slight taper at the top, leading down to an ever so slightly flared base where the on/off/functions button and recharge points are kept. The soft-touch ABS plastic is pleasant to touch (and be touched with), it feels very slinky when moistened and, while being knockable hard, its toughness doesn't equate to roughness. The very tip of my toy had a tiny tiny bump (I'm presuming from the moulding process), but this didn't cause any issues at all.

The single operational button is big enough and easy to find in the dark - even without the accompanying circular strip of light that illuminates and flashes in accordance to the vibration patterns (which I really like because, 'Oooh, shiny!'). It becomes a bit more tricky to operate with slippery hands, though, and there is a distinct likelihood that you will end up with, at least partly, slippery fingers. Given how small the toy is, there's not much to hold on to so it's difficult not to end up with any lubrication from the tip over the rest of the body of the toy. You could hold on with your very fingertips, but this makes it more difficult to position. It is by no means a huge issue though, and I had no real trouble getting to grips with and changing the settings.

This toy has TEN different speeds and functions - all of them are buzzy in varying degrees but all of them are strong. Like, ridiculously strong for the size of the toy. If you turn it on and hold it on your open palm it will immediately attempt to escape, scampering up to your wrist like a scared hamster. The first setting (which I presume is 'low') has as much gusto as some of the high settings on at least one of my other bullets and it only gets better from there. The next two are 'medium' and 'high', after which follows some rather delightful, and not just the 'usual' presets. I'm a big fan of the one that builds then quickly drops out only to surprise you with another quick buzz then builds again. Amazing for teasing yourself or your partner. Well, amazing, so long as you're looking for a buzzy, rather than a throbby sensation.

While this toy is powerful it will probably leave the rumbly vibration fans a little disappointed. There's no doubt that, given the right positioning and no small amount of pressure, the power does translate into more rumbly sensations, but I would definitely describe this as more buzz than rumble. It is definitely possible to achieve both sensations, but if you're looking for pin point buzzy loving the Dahlia has lots to offer.

I love rechargeable toys and this is no exception, quick to take a charge and slow to lose it. Saves batteries, time and effort. The size is obviously a bonus if you're wanting to be discreet but, bear in mind that although this toy is easy to hide from prying eyes it might be a little harder to conceal from any flapping ears. It's not LOUD, but it's not silent either - think along the lines of massive angry wasp in a metal bucket. If you're under the covers with the door closed and the telly is on and it's raining you might get away with it, otherwise you might need to wait until you have the house to yourself. Extra points must be awarded for the standupability of this toy, you can easily balance it on the bottom end where it will stay upright, like a sexy Weeble, until you want to use it again.

Slightly higher priced than some bullets, but I think the design features more than warrant it. Perhaps not a great beginners bullet due to the strength, though it was a long time since I was a beginner, so I'm not sure I can comment. I'm in the process of replacing all my toys with rechargeable versions, so if you're looking for a similar type of upgrade this may be just the buzz you're looking for.

    2. Overall Rating
      8 out of 10 stars
The size (easy to hide/store), the patterns and the strength.
The size (harder to hold on to).
      Bottom line
If angry wasps made a vibrator, this would be it.
