It's 1875 , and the morals of Queen Victoria mean nothing to London's wayward and debauched elite. Young by naive Clarissa Longleigh is visiting London for the first time. She is eager to meet Lord Marldon - the man to whom she's been promised - knowing only that he's handsome, dark and sophisticated. In fact he is depraved, louche and has a taste for sexual excess.
Clarissa has also struck up a friendship with a young Italian artist, Gabriel. When Marldon hears of this he is incensed, and imprisons Clarissa in his opulent London mansion. When Gabriel tries to free her, he too is captured, and the young lovers find themselves at the mercy of the debauched lord.

Clarissa Longleigh is a nineteen year old country girl betrothed to the as yet unseen Lord Alec Marldon. Lord Marldon, while titled is in need of money and Clarissa's Father has plenty with which to buy the title his family is lacking.
Clarissa isn't at all bothered by the situation as the thought of returning to the country life bores her rigid. She is excited and ready to join in all the delights with which London can provide.
Whilst waiting for Alec to put in an appearance, Clarissa is introduced to Gabriel Ardenzi, a talented but struggling artist.
Clarissa and Gabriel are together long enough to fall in love when along comes the groom to be who kidnaps Clarissa off to his dark and gothic house. Alec it seems has sexual appetites to match his house and Clarissa becomes caught up in his games. Whilst held captive by Lord Marldon Clarissa learns much about herself, what really turns her on and how you can have lust without love. Gabriel the young studly muffin mounts a rescue - but is Clarissa willing to be rescued after all?
Alongside the main characters there is a raft of other bright young things, Clarissa's cousin Harriett, Maid Kitty, Gabriel's friends Lucy and Julian all who fling themselves into bed with all the merry abandonment you expect from BlackLace, without detracting from the plot at all.
- Exciting story, engaging three dimensional characters and lots of plot driven sex.
- Absolutely nothing.
- Bottom line
- A must read, not just for the sex as the plot is just as exciting.
