Position of the Week:
Crossed Lovers

Criss-cross, you’re the boss! This cheeky take on missionary puts the X in seXy, offering intimacy, variation in penetrative depth and a whole lotta fun!

A naked illustrated couple in a crossed leg variation of the missionary sex position.

How?

To try this position, the receiving partner lies flat on their back with their legs lifted and ankles crossed above the hips. The giving partner kneels between their partner’s thighs to enter.

For added intensity, the receiver can place their crossed ankles on the giver’s shoulders. Take your time finding the right rhythm and positioning and be sure to communicate about what feels good.

Why?

This fresh take on the classic Missionary position makes the receiver feel tighter, which might be arousing for both of you. Keeping the legs crossed also offers physical tension for the receiver, which can enhance the sensation of penetration. It seriously ups the stakes!

This position is a great go-to when you want something that feels more intense without switching to an entirely new position. It’s intimate, has plenty of eye contact, and works well for both quickies and slower, sensual sessions.

Make it even easier

You might not have the mobility to cross your legs and hold them up – so let’s talk modifications. The receiver could rest their legs on the giver’s shoulders (or the headboard of your bed) instead of crossing them.

Alternatively, keep the legs together with a slight bend in the knee. The giver can hold the receiver’s legs up or rest them on one shoulder. Ankle cuffs or bondage rope can help gently hold the legs together, reducing the need for active muscle engagement.

Heaps of pillows or a sex wedge under the lower back can also reduce strain on the hips and make leg elevation feel easier.

Make it even better

To take this position to the next level, introduce a wearable couple's vibrator like the We-Vibe Chorus which is designed to provide stimulation to both partners during penetration.

Chorus nestles comfortably between partners, delivering consistent vibrations to the penis, clitoris, and G-spot, that can be controlled via remote or app, letting you adjust the intensity without breaking the mood. Its flexible fit moves with your bodies, staying in place even as the rhythm changes.

Combine your toys with plenty of lube for smooth, heightened sensation. To deepen pleasure even more, experiment with the receiver’s leg position crossed, uncrossed, or resting on shoulders to vary internal pressure and G-spot access.

Make it even kinkier

To bring a little edge to this position, try incorporating a butt plug or restraining the bottom partner with wrist cuffs. Restraints can increase physical tension while letting the bottom partner explore feelings of vulnerability – or a liberating lack of responsibility!

Adding a butt plug creates a fuller, more snug feeling during penetration, stimulating nerve endings and enhancing pleasure for both partners. With the Romp Luster butt plug set, you can try different sizes and see what works for you.

If rope bondage feels too advanced, use a bed restraint that goes under your mattress. That way, you don’t have to worry about tying knots and you can secure the wrists in position that feels as comfortable (or uncomfortable) as you both feel safe exploring.

As always, communicate with your partner openly about your boundaries when it comes to kinky sex. Check in with each other regularly during the session to keep it safe and consensual.
